SolarCarShare is an initiative of Post Carbon Institute, an international nonprofit organization whose mission is to get the world off fossil fuels fast.
Our ultimate goal is to provide multiple means for individuals to move themselves and things without the use of fossil fuels. With that goal in mind, we are seeking to power vehicles mainly through solar power and wind turbines.
There may be a role for non-industrial, organic local biofuels (which are still solar fuels) if growing the feedstock does not compete with food crops. One example is the use of waste crops - such as windfall fruit, which can be processed into ethanol or biodiesel, and the residue (which is most of the volume) used in compost and returned to the land.
Following a successful pilot in Sebastopol, CA our aim is to expand SolarCarShare into other communities by providing a turn-key solution for local organizations and businesses interested in transitioning their own communities into a post carbon world.
